DAY 6 – Last Day to Nelson
Clemy picked up his dirt bike from Westport yesterday in preparation for some offroading with the scooters in Rainbow today on the way to Nelson. Everyone left for the last day of riding with some disappointment that it will all soon be over – Caroline attempted to persuade the crew to continue to Russell at the top of the North Island!
The ride through Rainbow ended up being a lot of pushing bikes but overall a really fun offroad track in perfect weather conditions. The Aussie girls are keen to come back and do these offroad trails on dirt bikes. After some lunch and mechanical work at Lake Roto-iti we all played Scooter Soccer with a big swiss ball…. it was lots of fun and provided some entertaining moments for the passing by wedding guests heading home from their celebration at the lake that morning.
It was expected we would take a couple of hours to ride the last 80 kms into Nelson – but a favourable tail wind helped us scoot in before closing time so we stopped in to Orange Dog to say hi to our biggest fans and take a look at the wall of fame.
Then back on the scooters for the last little hop into central city and a photo opportunity at the Cathedral Steps and then again at Rocks Road overlooking Tahunanui Beach.
After a very long week we gathered together with friends and family for dinner at the Honest Lawyer then had our final video session up in Caroline’s room and signed each other’s vests before hugs goodbye and promises to do it all again next year! In the classic parting words from Erin : “THANKS FOR THE GREAT ROUTE, JASON!!!!!!!!!!”
If you’d like to join us on this incredibly mad adventure whilst raising money for a very worthy charity – please contact us for updates and information on the proposed route and dates for Survivor Scooter 2011.
